The film was released on March 2, 2023, by Lyca Productions, a big surprise that raised expectations among the audience as the director, with only two films under his belt, was chosen to direct the high-profile Rajinikanth project. This is the fourth time the production company has teamed up with the superstar. Laika, the production house that worked on Rajinikanth’s “2. O” and “Darbar” and was signed for Lal Salaam, has now teamed up for the fourth time.

It was DJ Gnanavel who made a breakthrough with Suriya’s blockbuster ‘Jai Bheem’ after giving a sizzling entry in the 2017 film Goomathil Oruthan. According to Laika, Rajini’s next film was earlier titled ‘Thalaivaar 170’ and is being directed by ‘Gnanavel’. Rajinikanth is acting in a crime film which is expected to be interesting and have a deep meaning. Based on a true story, the shooting of the film will begin soon.

Vettaiyan: Shooting

Principal photography was scheduled to begin in the third week of September 2023 in Chennai but eventually began on October 4 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Production shifted to Tirunelveli on October 11. In late October, the shooting of the second schedule featuring Rajinikanth and Bachchan began in Mumbai. The schedule ends on October 30. On November 20, the shooting began at Prasad Label in Chennai.

During this schedule, when Indian 2 was being shot at the same studio, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan met at the studio and posted videos and pictures on social media, which went viral. On December 5, Singh took to his social media to announce that he would be taking a break from filming after getting injured during the shooting of his segments.

A leaked image of Rajinikanth and Faasil captured by the paparazzi was posted on X (formerly Twitter), where the film’s social media security partner removed the image from social media and warned users not to post it or they would lose their account. After a brief break for Pongal, filming resumed in Puducherry. That schedule ended in mid-January 2024. The final schedule began on January 28 in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh.

On February 10, Rajinikanth said that 80% of the filming had been completed. In early March, production shifted to Hyderabad and Daggupathi began shooting for its portions on March 4. Filming for Rajinikanth’s portions wrapped up on May 13, 2024, while overall shooting was completed by late August.
