Raayan is a 2024 Indian Tamil language neo-noir crime action film directed by Dhanush in his second directorial debut and produced by Kalanidhi Maran under Sun Pictures. The film stars Dhanush in the lead role along with Sandeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Tushara Vijayan, S.J.

Starring Suriya, Selvaragavan, Prakash Raj, Aparna Balamurali, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Saravanan, Dileepan, Divya Pillai, and others. In the film, the owner of a fast-food restaurant in North Chennai struggles to protect his family when he inadvertently gets caught up in a war between two rival gangs that results in unexpected circumstances.

The film was officially announced in January 2023 as D50, Dhanush’s fiftieth film as a lead actor, and the official title was announced in February 2024. Principal photography began in July 2023 on East Coast Road in Chennai.

Most of the shooting occurred in association with Aditya Ram Studios, which was again followed by another schedule in Karaikudi, which wrapped up in mid-December—music by AR Rahman, Cinematography by Om Prakash, Editing by Prasanna G.K.

Raayan was originally scheduled to be released on June 13, 2024, but was later postponed. The film was released worldwide on July 26, 2024, Dhanush’s birthday. It received mixed reviews from critics, who were praised for its music, cinematography, direction, and acting, while the plot and post-interval parts received criticism.

The film grossed over ₹160 crore worldwide, was a commercial success at the box office, and became the second highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 and the highest-grossing A-rated Tamil film of all time.

Raayan: Music

After Raanjana (2013), Marian (2013) and Atrangi Re (2021), AR is the fourth collaboration with Dhanush. Rahman has composed the music. The first single “Indomitable Monster” was released on 9 May 2024, the second single “Water Pocket” was released on 24 May and the third single “Ryan Rumble” was released on 5 July. The audio launch was held on 6 July 2024 at Sri Sai Ram College of Engineering, Chennai.
